Meat manufacturers slice their way to victory
A family team of four meat manufacturers roasted the opposition to take the trophy at a charity golf day.
The team from Brownhills based AE Poxon won the 40th Second City Charity Golf Classic at Little Aston golf club in Sutton Coldfield (July 19th). They beat over 170 Midlands’ business rivals in record-breaking temperatures and played their part in raising a record-breaking amount of money for three local charities.
Jeremy Cooke, Partner of the event main sponsors, Enoch Evans, solicitors, Walsall, said: “The day was a huge success and we are on course to break the £12,500 total that was raised last year. The money raised will be split equally between the local branches of three local charities; the County Air Ambulance, the Arthritis Research Campaign (ARC) and the University Hospital Birmingham Charities - Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.”
The family team consisting of brothers and cousins Nick, Martin, Chris and Pete Poxon won the day for the meat manufacturing firm established in 1927.
Chris Poxon enthused: “We’re delighted to come out on top and put our success down to a regular diet of red meat.”
AE Poxon was one of three teams that finished tied for the lead on 87 points, Doors and Hardware and last year’s winners Hawkstone Properties were also vying for the lead. The meat manufacturers proved too strong and they were awarded the title thanks to a superior back-six finish.
Mr Cooke of the Walsall based solicitors, Enoch Evans concluded: "Some of the golf on display was hotter than the weather and it’s great to see manufacturing coming out on top again in the Midlands. We couldn’t have wished for a more exciting finish and it made the ruby anniversary of the tournament an extra special one."
