Despite record-breaking temperatures over 170 business people from across Birmingham and the West Midlands met on a Sutton Coldfield golf course in the hope of breaking some records of their own.
The 40th Second City Charity Golf Classic, sponsored by Walsall Solicitors Enoch Evans, teed off at Little Aston Golf Club attracting over forty teams.
Jeremy Cooke, Partner at Enoch Evans, said: “The day was a huge success and we are on course to beat the £12,500 total that was raised last year. The money will be split equally between the branches of three local charities; County Air Ambulance, the Arthritis Research Campaign (ARC) and the University Hospital Birmingham Charities - Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
"Some of the golf on display was hotter than the weather! Three teams tied for first place and the event was decided by the very last team returning to the clubhouse. We couldn’t have wished for a more exciting finish and it made the ruby anniversary of the tournament an extra special one."
The three teams vying for the title on 87 points were AE Poxon, Doors and Hardware, and, last year’s winners, Hawkstone Properties. The team from AE Poxon were awarded the title thanks to a superior back-six finish.
The family team of brothers and cousins; Nick, Martin, Chris and Pete Poxon won the day for the Brownhills based meat manufacturing firm established in 1927. They attributed their success to a diet of red meat.
More about the day including pictures of the event will be available shortly.
