In October 2010, the Office of the Public Guardian ran a campaign in order to review its list of Panel Deputies. The Office of the Public Guardian helps to protect those who lack capacity, they support the Public Guardian in registering Enduring Powers of Attorney, Lasting Powers of Attorney and supervising Court of Protection appointed Deputies.
When the Court of Protection decides that there is no one close to the person lacking mental capacity who is suitable or willing to act, the Court of Protection will call upon a panel deputy to act for the person in question. Previously the panel held 179 members but after a lengthy campaign and review process, the number was vastly reduced. The recent campaign attracted over 600 applicants and took 4 months of review with a final 65 being selected. Enoch Evans LLP have proudly announced that Susan Comrie, Wills, Tax and Probate Partner has maintained her place as a panel deputy, the firm’s involvement has increased and they will now be covering more areas outside of the West Midlands and Staffordshire. The panel has a mixture of organisations from the legal profession, third sector, accountants and lay people.
Susan commented, “I am extremely pleased to have maintained my position as a panel deputy, as well as increase the areas served. This is especially satisfying given the lengthy review process. My position will enable the Wills, Tax and Probate department at Enoch Evans LLP to thrive and make a difference in many other localities”.
The panel will go live from Monday 4th April 2011 and a full list of panel members will be made publicly available on the OPG website.
