Walsall-based legal practice Enoch Evans is celebrating the exceptional achievement of one of their team.
Solicitor Barry Pearce has been awarded with a plaque by The President of the Birmingham Law Society to commemorate his 50 years practising as a solicitor.
Barry was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors back in 1958. His career has spanned half a century, seeing him through National Service to become President of the Walsall Law Association in 1985. It’s a fascinating career that has inevitably seen many changes both in society and in law firms across the country.
Born and raised in Walsall, Barry attended Queen Mary’s Grammar School and later St. John’s College Cambridge where he obtained his law degree. Barry then became a Solicitor’s Articled Clerk with the Walsall firm of C. L. Hodgkinson & Benton. Following his qualification as a solicitor, Barry had to complete his National Service, which he did with the Intelligence Corps in Cyprus.
Following National Service, Barry returned to work as a solicitor, becoming a partner at C. L. Hodgkinson & Benton in 1961and then Senior Partner of the firm, which eventually merged with Enoch Evans in 2004.
The abolition of National Service is not the only change that has occurred over the last five decades. “My professional lifetime has seen many changes, Barry said, “Perhaps the biggest has been the explosion in the number of female solicitors, who have certainly made the profession much better looking than it once was!”
Despite a remarkable dedication to his profession, Barry has always enjoyed an active social life outside of work, particularly enjoying vigorous sports such as squash and rugby. Barry is now a Vice President of Walsall Rugby Football Club, although these days his physical activity is confined to the gentler sport of gardening.
On Barry’s award, Managing Director David Evans said,
"Barry has made an outstanding contribution not only to this law firm but to legal practise in Walsall over the last 50 years. His longevity and achievements over the years are in no small part due to his prodigious talent as a lawyer. Everyone at Enoch Evans is very proud to have the opportunity to work alongside such an established and venerated figure of the legal landscape.”
Enoch Evans Solicitors have been an integral part of the Walsall community for over 120 years, offering commercial and private services, including legal advice, dispute resolution and property.
