To celebrate his 25th year with Enoch Evans LLP in 2010, Managing Partner David Evans set himself and two friends a goal of cycling 160 miles from London to Walsall in aid of The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. It was David’s Great-Grandfather (and one time Mayor of Walsall) who established the firm in 1884 with David joining the firm in 1985.
The cycling team also consisted of Dr Matthew Dugas from Sycamore House Surgery, Birmingham Road, Walsall and an old friend of David’s, Martin Newhouse. The team, along with extra money raised by the staff of Enoch Evans LLP, have raised over £2,500 for the charity which is responsible for funding and operating three Air Ambulances serving the Midlands and Welsh border region. The Midlands Air Ambulance is regarded as one of the longest established and busiest Air Ambulance operators in the UK
The team started on their journey from Brentford, London beside the tidal lock at the start of the Grand Union Canal on Saturday 18th September 2010 at 8.45am and made their way via the Grand Union canal towpath to Birmingham with an overnight stop near Northampton. From Birmingham, they cycled along the Tame Valley canal followed by the Rushall Canal to get to the finish at the Offices of Enoch Evans LLP, Walsall on Sunday 19th September 2010 at 5.45pm. Not only were they informed that the journey should realistically take three days but they were also advised that some paths were unsuitable for cycling. Despite this they carried on, completing their mission in two days and relatively unscathed.
As well as the money kindly donated for the team’s cycling mission, the staff at Enoch Evans LLP have also contributed with a very special raffle where a lucky member of staff had the opportunity to win an extra days holiday. A total of £111 was raised from the raffle and also from the various donations made to collection tins and sponsor forms.
David Evans, Managing Partner at Enoch Evans LLP commented that “the response to our charity event has been staggering and I am very proud of the generosity shown to us by our clients, professional contacts, staff, family and friends. The mission was labour intensive but the outstanding work that the charity carries out makes all of the aches and pains worth it. We saw a varied array of life on our two day adventure and we recommend it to anyone. Thank you to everyone who contributed towards the final total, it has certainly made my 25th year with Enoch Evans LLP more memorable”
