The World Cup is upon us, and emotions are running high. There are parties and celebrations, as well as commiserations when England don’t play quite as well as most would like them to.
But there is a darker side to the football fever sweeping the nation, and in the newspapers recently has been the confirmation that incidents of domestic violence are on the increase throughout the tournament. During the 2006 World Cup reports of domestic violence rose by around 30% on England match days and unfortunately that trend seems to be repeating itself.
Domestic violence is something which affects thousands of people’s lives each year. The first step if you believe you may be in danger or if you have been subject to physical or mental abuse is to contact the Police, but there are actions which can be taken through the courts to help protect you and your children.
Enoch Evans LLP can advise and assist with urgent applications to the Court for non-molestation orders (where an individual is prevented from pestering, harrassing or intimidating another) and occupation orders (which may, for example, order an individual to vacate a property and not return).
