CASE STUDY:
VIRTUALISATION PROJECT STREAMLINES MANAGEMENT AND HELPS MAXIMISE PROFITABILITY AT ENOCH EVANS LLP
September 2011

The Customer
Enoch Evans LLP is a full service law firm with offices in Walsall. The central location allows the firm to serve an extensive cross-section of clients throughout the UK; they do this through many dedicated specialist departments. Although the firm is well established with historical links, Enoch Evans is very much a 21st Century firm who invest heavily in new systems and technology to ensure steady expansion and innovation. Originally, Enoch Evans LLP operated Oracle and Microsoft based servers which ran a combination of SolCase case management and Miles 33 practice management software.  To meet the challenges facing the future provision of legal services, it was decided that investment in new technology was essential to the overall strategy of the Firm.

The Challenge
To upgrade and rationalise servers across the Firm’s two buildings, improve infrastructure to optimise a move to a new office-wide matter management system, and streamline IT management and improve overall business efficiency.

The Solution
Proactive IT service, support and solutions provider, Icomm Technologies, worked with Andrew Caddick, IT Administrator at Enoch Evans LLP to explore technology options. Seven operational servers and four disaster recovery machines were consolidated down to four Windows-based servers, which were virtualised using VMWare ESX 4 software.

The Benefits
Colin Wilkes, Practice Manager at Enoch Evans LLP, said: “Virtualisation has given us the same number of servers but far less physical hardware to manage.  If something goes wrong it is quick and easy to spot the warning signs and act swiftly to fix the problem. We have seen savings in management time and effort, the business is more efficient and this approach is delivering ROI. Our infrastructure, which is now consolidated into one unified environment, has enabled us to streamline our workflow.  It has provided the ideal foundation for the transition to an office-wide matter management system ensuring all work is dealt with efficiently allowing the Firm to meet the demands of a modern Solicitor’s practice”
